Shaman Discusses Grounding and Centering

Do you have days where you are feeling overwhelmed, stressed, spacey, disoriented or unbalanced? Is your mind racing in a hundred different directions? Are you feeling scattered and restless? This is an indication that you are not grounded and centered in your body. When you’re stressed and unbalanced you lose your center, your mind and body are disconnected.

Centering and grounding techniques help to bring you back into your body and stabilizes your energies.  Grounding and centering are a very basic core energy practice. Whatever your beliefs are this simple practice can make a huge difference in your life. These practices promote increased personal joy and spiritual health. Centering and Grounding are very easy to do and can be done any place anywhere.

 GROUNDING

You can do this sitting or standing. Relax and take deep breaths in through your nose and exhale out through your mouth. Visualize your-self sending an energy cord or light beam into the earth from your root chakra (at the tailbone) and allowing it to reach the earth core. This allows you to get energy from the Earth and return excess energy down the earth’s cord. The energy you send down the cord is cleansed and used by the earth. Your own energy is cleansed and returned to you. For a few moments feel the negative energy and energy that is not yours going down to the center of the earth. Then feel the warmth of the cleansed energy coming back up and filing your whole body. Just sit with this for a few moments until you feel more balanced and connected to your body.

Another quick way of grounding is to wiggle your toes and imagine roots growing into the earth from your feet. Feel the root going down to the earth’s core. Send your negative energy and energy that is not yours out the bottom of your feet and down though the roots into the center of the earth and feel the energy from the earth come up through your feet, up through your legs into your whole body. Do this until you feel more balanced and connected to your body.

Strong smells can help you reconnect to the present moment and get you back into your body. A whiff of a strong peppermint or eucalyptus oil, will work well. Find a smell that works best for you and keep it with you.

Different crystals can help you ground in various ways. For instance, Obsidian is a volcanic rock, which is black and opaque. Its properties make it excellent for un-blocking negative energy and help you to become more balanced. Other grounding crystals include Black Tourmaline, Smoky Quartz or Jet.

Hold the crystal in your hand and imagine any unwanted energy flowing out of you and into the crystals. Occasionally, clear your crystal of its negative charge, by putting it in a dish of sea salt or in the sunlight for a few hours or even at night during a full moon.

There are dozens of different techniques and meditations for grounding and centering because these practices are a vital part of our personal well-being. Find one that works best for you and that helps promote your health and well-being.
