Reiki is a spiritual practice developed in 1922 by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui, which has since been adapted by various teachers of varying traditions. It uses a technique commonly called palm healing or hands on healing as a form of complementary therapy and is sometimes classified as oriental medicine by some professional medical bodies. Through the use of this technique, practitioners believe that they are transferring universal energy (i.e., reiki) in the form of ki energy through the palms, which allows for self-healing. Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

There is more to our physical bodies then we are aware of. Our bodies have luminous energy fields or auras that are around our body. Also our bodies have chakras (the energy centers of the body and energy meridians. The chakras take in energy and break it down and the meridians are the pathways which allow the energy to flow through the body.

The luminous energy field, aura or energy meridian is an information center and a highly perceptual system that transmits and receives messages from the external and internal environment. When our bodies’ auras are weakened through different life traumas and negative belief patterns, the energy meridians get block and this is when we become physical, emotionally and mentally sick. Regular Reiki treatments help to keep the aura and energy system strong. When our bodies’ luminous energy field or aura energy is strong it helps to prevent illness within the body.
